Donations and Masses
You can help the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva and the community of Dominican friars in a number of ways: by asking for a candle to be lit for you, requesting a Mass Intention, or making a donation.
Lighting a candle is a bit like making a visible prayer offering to God of a good desire that burns in your heart. We are committed to lighting your candle at the altar of St. Catherine of Siena, the altar of Our Lady, or another chapel of your choice (please specify) and to pray for your intentions.
In the Holy Mass, we celebrate the memorial of the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross and His Resurrection for the salvation of the world.
Anyone who wishes can request a Mass Intention to be offered for the repose of the soul of a loved one, or for some particular occasion: a birthday, an anniversary, a time of trial, for someone who is ill, or in thanksgiving to God. In communion with the Church, one offers to God this intention.
While Masses and prayers are not purchased, a charitable offering is a way to feel responsible and in communion with the Church of God by assisting the community of friars who are praying for you, as well as assisting them with the maintenance costs of the Basilica.
A recommended offering of 10 euros for one Mass Intention is suggested by the Italian Bishops. To request a candle to be lit, for one or more Mass Intentions, or to make a donation, please see the list below:

Celebration of a Gregorian Series of Masses
(30 Masses for 30 consecutive days) Pope Saint Gregory the Great (from whom the Gregorian names comes) had a vision of soul who was immediately freed from Purgatory following the celebration of 30 consecutive Masses. The practice of celebrating Gregorian Masses was approved by a decree of the Sacred Congregation of Indulgences in 1884. For the Gregorian Series of Masses, it is customary to give a more substantial offering than for a series of sequential Masses.
